Answers to User FAQ's

Q - What is a Recommendation Index?

A - A Recommendation index (or RI) is the number of recommendations customers have provided. For each positive recommendation the RI increases by 1, for each neutral recommendation, there is no increase and for each negative recommendation the RI decreases by 1.

Q - What is the advantage of DirectoryOf over other directories?

A - DirectoryOf is an on-line reputation repository. This means that a Trademember's reputation is here, viewable by the public, independent of their input. This means that you can judge for yourself - before you even pick up the 'phone, if you wish to do business with a Trademember.

Q - What does it cost?

A - Nothing, nada, zilch. This service is free. All we ask is you tell your friends.

Q Can a Trademember fake a reputation?

A - Technically yes, however we vet all the recommendations that come in. A Trademember could send us faked feedback forms or create 100's of email addresses to allow them to post lots of recommendations on-line, HOWEVER, we do audit and monitor this and the penalty for such actions is for us to reverse the RI - i.e. if they fake 100 positive RI points, we will remove the fake ones and give them 100 negative RI points.

Our ambition is to be the champion of the consumer. Honest Trademembers will value, respect and profit from this. Dishonest Trademembers will not.

Q - I wish to complain about a Trademember - will they see my name?

A - Yes of course. This is only fair and the only way the Trademember has a chance of resolving your complaint.

If the comments are posted on this site, that is if the Trademember has not resolved your complaint, then your name and county (i.e. Mrs Smith, Berkshire) will be displayed along with your comments.

When someone wishes to provide a negative recommendation we will ask for a fax or a copy of an invoice - we wish to see that you have transacted with this trademember. On receipt we will ask the Trademember concerned to resolve your complaint within 14 days. If they fail then the negative recommendation is posted. We reserve the right to vet or edit the negative comments to ensure they comply with our high standards.

For example - you may not make slanderous comments against a Trademember - however you may describe your experience with this Trademember, in detail, provide everything you say is true.

Answers to Trademembers FAQ's

Q - Why should I join?

A - DirectoryOf is an independent repostory, custodian and showcase for your reputation. When you have built up your on-line reputation you will be able to proudly present it to prospects, by

  • printing your DirectoryOf Recommendation Index pages and putting them in flyers, adverts or literature,
  • Adding a link from your website to your unique DirectoryOf webpage
  • adding your unique link to your official paperwork (quotes, letterheads etc).
  • For upto a year after you join, you are allowed to ask customers from the previous 12 months to provide recommendations for you.

Q - I have my own website with my customer references - why is this better?

A- Simple - it's indepentent. This site can contain the good and the bad. This is a benefit to you because a high Recommendation Index means that you have a fantastic reference ability - even if you have 1 or 2 negative comments, on balance these show that this site is honest. After all, everyone understands you simply cannot please everybody.

Q - What about negative Recommendations? How are these dealt with?

A - Seriously. Firstly we ask for a fax or photocopy of an invoice to prove that the complainant has transacted with you. Secondly we give you 14 days to respond to the complaint. If the complaint is resolved we do not publish anything negative. If the complaint is not resolved after 14 days we then publish the complaint until such times as the complainant withdraws the complaint.

Q - I am worried about my competition slagging be off on here - what controls are in place to prevent this?

A - We always ask for proof that the complainant has transacted with you. This means an invoice or other proof of payment for goods or services.

Q - I deal with 100's of customers a year, naturally I try and please all of them - but there is always one or two who are born complainers. How do I deal with these?

A - We accept that you cannot please all of the people all of the time. If you have Recommendations from 100 people, 98 are positive and 2 are negative then your RI will be 96. On balance this is a fantastic score and people will acknowledge this.

Q - How do I leverage my Recommendation Index?

A - by:

  • printing your DirectoryOf Recommendation Index pages and putting them in flyers, adverts or literature,
  • Adding a link from your website to your unique DirectoryOf webpage
  • adding your unique DirectoryOf link to your official paperwork (quotes, letterheads etc)
  • Having a DirectoryOf logo on you van, window, shopfront etc
